Grace VanderWaal (or Grace Avery VanderWaal) is an American singer, songwriter, ukulele player, and actress. VanderWaal came to global media attention in 2016 due to her extraordinary musical performances on the American TV reality and talent show, America’s Got Talent (AGT). Since AGT, VanderWaal has produced several albums. Some of her most sold albums include Letters, Perfectly Imperfect, and Just the Beginning.
VanderWaal won season 11 of the show on 14 August 2016. At 12 years of age, she became the second-youngest winner of the show during its more than decade-long history.
AGT’s founder and one of the judges Simon Cowell praised VanderWaal as the next Taylor Swift and thanked her several times for participating in the show.
Early Life & Education
Grace VanderWaal was born on 15 January 2004 in Suffern, New York as the youngest daughter of Dave VanderWaal (father) and Tina VanderWaal (mother). She has an elder sister, Olivia VanderWaal, whom Grace refers to as her best friend in media interviews. The second song that VanderWaal performed in the AGT show, beautiful thing, was reportedly written and dedicated to her sister. She also has a brother, Jakob VandeerWaal.
After winning the AGT contest in 2016, VanderWaal became a notable public face and a celebrity. As a result, she was home-schooled and also attended online courses for grade 7. After a while, however, she also attended a public school, and in 2022 graduated from the Laurel Springs School.
